Were you aware that Google was holding an event right here in Cairo to figure out potential opportunities?
The G-Egypt event was a three day event that targeted academics, software developers, and business owners & entrepreneurs in collaboration with 30 of Google's engineers and product managers from across the globe. The event was dedicated to analyzing potential opportunities for the region.
Google has embraced the strength and influence of the Middle East by incorporating Arabic translation for all their features (Chrome, Maps, etc). The company made an agreement with Egypt, including a substantial investment of $10 million throguh Google in advertising spending to essentially aid small and medium enterprises online as well as improving current infrastructure.
Google will also provide free consultations to business who would like to learn how to use internet advertising to improve business growth and development (Tell them to advertise here!).
Finally, and what we think is the most important feature of the G-Egypt eent, is the acknowledgement and discussion of the millions of Egyptians that do not even have an online presence. To address that section of the population, Google has created "Ahlan Online", an Arabic program dedicated to introduce and help Arabic internet users the basics of online usage.
Sounds pretty awesome! We love the collaboration and actual steps taken forward to make a difference in our advancement. We also can't wait to see the future developments!
