We were the first to tell you about Harrassmap awhile back...Well now that they're live and running and not only covering Egypt but the region...Looks like the Egyptian government is beginning to take a stand against sexual harassment in the streets, and of course the media is jumping on the bandwagon.
Over the Eid holidays over 600 cases of sexual harassment were reported to the police in both Cairo and Alexandria...and although many of you may find it trivial the name calling, lewd expressions and sometimes inappropriate touching that occurs plenty of women obviously are sick of it and have decided to report it!
What was once considered a shameful act women had to endure is now turning into a full on rebellion! Supposedly 300 men/boys were arrested due to them harassing women in the street (keep in mind this is considered a huge step towards progress as many officials turned their back on the issue, under the belief women deserved what they got!)
With the uproar amongst women and men in Cairo continues to rise, next month a new movie entitled "6,7,8" will be hitting theaters that tackles this very issue. The whole film is based on the harassment that occurs in the streets and how different women from different social classes handle it...
Looks like they have a pretty good cast as well!
