Sahel Sehour

August 12, 2010

For those of you in sahel, the Ramadan spirit is just as much in the air as in Cairo! While most have fitar in the peacefulness of their own home with family, post fitar is filled with exercise-walks and suhoor get togethers.

Where, you ask? Andrea, Sky Beach, and Diplo's Costa just to name a few!

Late night sahel is now filled with chillaxin on the beach with a shisha, some cards, and suhoor. The decorations are festive and everyone's relaxed.

We were wondering how Ramadan Sahel would turn out and so far we love it! This weekend a lot of people will be heading out to the coast to ramdan for the weekend.

During the day, its totally dead though but we guess you can't have everything!

Fawazir Ramadan are Back!

Before Grey's Anatomy, before Entourage, before Surf the Channel; there was Local TV. And on Local TV in Ramadan, there was one event that remained emblazoned on everyone's memories; the Fawazir. Granted, the only ones that mattered were Cherihan and Nelly, but when they were on, we were watching. This year, the Fawazir is back, and in the age of video clips, and the bar has been raised. Check out the first sneak peak at Fawazir Merium Faris on Al Kahera Wal Nas at 7:45 pm!

The Ramadan Campaigns Begin

August 11, 2010

We've always loved Etisalat's TV ads, and our opinion hasn't changed with regards to their latest Ramadan ad.

Check out the celebs making a cameo in it while singing and dancing. We love the musical idea, although most of the voices can't hold a note to save their lives!

What made us love the ad more is the ending line; Etisalat has closed 15 million subscribers in 3 years, if that is true, it's pretty darn impressive!

A Great Idea!

August 11, 2010

Now this is a smart idea!!

Dalili.com.eg has now added a new SMS service that appears to make life so much easier!

According to their press release, "From any mobile phone, users can now locate any one of the more than 150,000 businesses listed on Dalili.com.eg, by simply sending an SMS to 9110. The SMS needs to only contain the name of the business and area in which it is located. For example, typing "Pizza Hut in Maadi" into an SMS and sending it to 9110 would give the user the telephone number and address deatils of the establishment within seconds."

And it's not that expensive either - it's only LE 1 per SMS.

It's such a great idea, practical and simple. We love it!

Rejoice Blackberry Stays

August 10, 2010

Good news world, Blackberry will not be suspended in Saudi Arabia! RIM the company that makes Blackberry has agreed to let the Saudi Arabian government monitor their Blackberry data by placing a server in their country!

This goes against all that RIM believes in when it comes to company and user privacy, but it looks like losing 700,000 users in Saudi alone, made them reconsider.

We're sure the UAE will follow suit now, and all will be back to normal!

All you bberry addicts can now breathe a sigh of relief!

Bling-ionaires

August 10, 2010

Looks like London has had it's fill of Arabs and Arab gaudiness that it's starting to show through!

We've come accross plenty of articles and comments about how Europe has become one little gulf state and without a doubt London takes the cake. The amount of super cars that we have seen this year, that have been flown into England (on private jets) may we add has topped any other year!

We're sure the financial recession, although has affected the rest of the world has not stopped our Arab brethren from showing off their goods to all the frustrated Europeans! We're not too sure what the issue is since we're sure the influx of gulf natives has definitely if anything improved the economic situation, besides the parking tickets and over crowding of the Knightsbrdige area!

When the people at Harvey Nichols discovered that the amount of money Middle Eastern people in London were spending was rising so dramatically, the department store decided to start using Arabic advertisements in-store. Summer opening hours were extended to 9pm all week, and all cafe menus were modified to include Arabic translations and a Halal food offering.

We love how all these countries who deep down fear us, are bending over backwards to please countries they surely despise! Like they say Money talks!

Ramadan Gana

August 10, 2010

Can it really be true, a whole year has gone by and Ramadan is tomorrow? Well it looks like we're back to days of hibernation in our offices and homes and long nights out gratifying our need to stuff our faces with food!

So where are the places to be this Ramadan?

3al Nil:

One of Cairo's long time favorites, starting its 6th year 3al Nil will be back again this year at Imperial Boats deck in Zamalek. Last year it was at Mojito, but as we know since the Hilton no longer exits, the nomadic kheima has been laid to rest near another hot spot, Mojo Lounge.

You can chill and relax by the nile, or chose a playstation booth to sit with your boys at. Either way definitely one of the places to chow down at through out the month!

Le Deck:

New to the Egyptian scene, Le Deck this Ramadan probably has the best panoramic "360 view" of the Nile. Located on a deck on the nile at the Sofitel Gezeirah, we're pretty sure many of you have eaten there before.

This year "experience Ramadan as it used to be, with live music acts, amazing cuisine, and shisha"

Sequoia:

This place needs no introduction, easily one of the most popular places to be in Ramadan for the past several years! This year Sequoia has added a spin to their kheima, by bringing in 3 of big designers to add their touches to the location.

Hussein Nassar's Design House who, with a mix of different Egyptian folkloric colors and patterns, were able to create their own interpretation of a Bedouin tent; Amina K. who designed a line of eclectic Egyptian attire exclusively for the Sequoia team and AKM Productions who pay tribute to the founders of the Franco-Arab movement in Egypt by mixing a rare and melodic collection of Western and Oriental beats.

Bab El Nil:

Another new kid on the block, Bab El Nil is located on the Fairmont Nile City's terrace. Besides the breathtaking views and delicious food, the tent will have 3 events that give back to society throughout the month of Ramadan.

August 18: Zamalek Art gallery will offer 20 pieces of art donated by renowned contemporary artists. Each piece will be sold at a discounted price; all proceeds will be given to Operation Smile.

August 25: Hoested by Youssra Pashion magazine creates a west meets east fashion event to recognize all the local designers. Moreover, they will be offering a display of signature items, provided by the designers, throughout the month. All sales will be given directly to the organization.

September 1: Cairo 360.com brings in talented artists to entertain, varying from The Percussion Show, Eftekasat and more. Throughout the night fun activities will take place to help raise money for the organization.

El Shagara:

Last and certainly not the least, El Shagara aka Sangria Gardens, is making it's presence felt this Ramadan with another refurbishment. Interior designer Nanou Zaki, will be doing the places decor which you can enjoy by the nile.

We all know the amazing food, ambiance, and shisha will sure make this place a favorite.
