Weekend Update

August 8, 2010

It was the last weekend of the Sahel Season, although many of you will still be heading out for Ramadan...it just won't be the same (que in sad music!)

So let's wrap it all up!

Thursday-

Tamarai: As we all know it was the closing event for one of Sahel's favorite spots...Fady from Mandaloun and DJ Samba, played to a full house! Guests didn't want to leave when the place was shutting down...either they had an amazing time or psychologically it just meant Ramadan was getting closer!

Sky Bar: Although it has been considered THE place to be the whole summer, this past Thursday the hot spot got packed later than usual...looks like Mr. Wahdan just didn't want to close the doors. We're assuming everyone went from Tamarai to the Lebanese export!

Tiesto: Although many of us did not attend the event, seems like a good couple thousand people did! We all love him and his mixing skills, but as we all know the Egyptian "rave" scene is one to be avoided! We hear the party was one big drug fest, that went on into the wee hours of the morning! We're curious did any of you go?

Friday -

Andrea: The party of the summer? The one everyone was waiting for? We have to say we haven't seen anything like it in Egypt for awhile. A-Class crowd, amazing music, Estelle and Craig David blew us away, all in all lets buy a new house in SeaShells?  A couple of brave souls, jumped on stage with estelle and tried to grind with her and she was a pretty good sport about it.

We have to say, great choice in entertainers and organization...obviously Rateb's pickiness works out for our benefit as well!

We also hear, Estelle before the big party was scene having a couple drinks at a who's who's private residence in Hacienda!

Sky Bar - Like every other night, all those who were not in Andrea headed out to Sky Bar...fantastic night, but Saturday night was the hot night!

Saturday -

Skybar: Skybar was definitely the place to be on Saturday night. It was impressive how many people were actually out and about - do people not go to work on Sundays anymore?! It was a packed night with a great crowd and amazing music! Besides celebrating the last night of the summer season, it was also Yassin Mansour's birthday. And the fireworks were amazing as usual!

Weekend Roundup

August 1, 2010

Some would call this the last sahel weekend! But S&H know for a fact what's in store for you in the next one!

Either way what hectic weekend this was, so let us break it down for you:

Thursday:

Electrum's Decadence Party: They call them the soul shakers, they were spposed to come once before, but due to that pesky little volcano, looks like the Electrum boys were able to reschedule.

Either way, many of you danced teh night away, unaware of the huge cat fight that took place in the lades bathroom...Tsk Tsk girls - not very class of you, now is it?

Sky Bar - Most of you opted to heading out there on a Thursday night, regardless of the ridiculous minimum charge they applied this weekend (500 LE) and the repetititve music. Either way, looks like sky bar is a winner.

Friday:

Oriental Coast Launch - Friday during the day was the launch of Marsa Allam's future Cafe Del Mar spot....all this took place on the beach in Diplo, the wide line up of DJs and the musicians had everyone who were kicking back on the beach totally relaxed.

Tamarai - one of Cairo's young up and coming DJs made a stop at Tamarai on Friday, spinning the tunes you guys love!

It looked like a lot of people opted to stay home though, as we know the God awful Amr Diab concert was taking place, which makes any movement on the North Coast near to impossible.

Saturday:

Sky Bar - Everyone knows this is the place to be on a Saturday night, although it is still unbearably crowded, the weekend crowd is nearly gone...

But in true Egyptian spirit, two of Cairo's known trouble makers were caught in a fight! Although the fight managed to make its way outside, it did cause some destruction!

S&H Weekend Roundup

July 25, 2010

So this weekend looks like it was the last big weekend, except we can't forget the up coming Electrum records party next week...

So what happened this weekend:

Thursday:

Sky Bar - Just like every day of the weekend, sky bar was on fire! It looks like Egyptians can't get enough of the Lebanese import!

Although there was a rumor going around that a Ms. Kelly Rowland would be making an appearance, it turned out to be exactly that...just a rumor. Never the less, the change to commercial music was much needed, making this weekend better than the last!

We have to say though the fight that broke out at the end of the night was definitely a buzz kill!

The Black Party - At the Baretza Club House in Marassi Shneeberz entertainment through a private event, that had promise to be an R&B party, but unfortunately like everything else in this country it ended up turning into a house party...But never the less some of us haven't had this kind of fun a long time even if the majority of the crowd wasn't too old!

Friday:

ByGanz - For the 2nd weekend in a row, Ganzoury rocked everyone's Friday. The Freemasons ft. Katherine Ellis (the vocalist) turned Tamarai into one of the best beach parties...Although the venue was a bit spread out, the music was perfection!

Mercedes Star Lounge - DJ Omar Sherif was the headlining Dj at Star Lounge, all though it's not the same as the international line up that was rocking the venue in the last 3 weeks, we have to say his music never falters. All who were there enjoyed the mixes...we just don't get why the venue hasn't received the attention it should?!

Weekend Update

July 18, 2010

This weekend was as eventful as last...so what went down:

On Thursday:

  • ByGanz brought Beirut's famous Music Hall to Tamarai NC 151...like always these kind of events throw everyone off when expecting a typical Ganzoury event, the influx of Arabic songs and on stage performers were of course amazing, but things didn't start warming up till as of late.
  • Tamer el Banna and the Mercedes Star Lounge, launched the new SLS AMG sports car along side Dj Tom Novey...we have to say some of the S&H Team are a bit confused about the crowd, but the music was spot on!

On Friday:

  • Sky Bar was the place to be on Friday, the fireworks...the sexy dancers...and the music (which was good the majority of the time, but a bit too hard for the S&H'ers at other times), makes this Beirut import the hottest location in sahel!
    • We have to note, that Sky Bar was banging all 3 nights of the weekend, even including Saturday, seems like people can't get enough especially considering how great the venue is!
Weekends are getting hotter and hotter Cairo...what did you think about this past weekend?

Weekend Roundup

July 11, 2010

This weekend was jam packed if you ask us! Besides the events we previously mentioned...get ready for your weekend round up

Like true Sahel style the house parties were in full swing this weekend:

  • On Thursday night the Chiaty's threw a lavish house party in honor of one of Cairo's fabulous socialites birthdays...all in attendance were there to wish the young lady a happy birthday and party the night away (considering it was a dry night everywhere else!)

  • "Ni**y I'm Famous"  was the place to be Friday afternoon at the Khamis residence in Hacienda...Djs Toy Boys and Amr Hosny spun while everyone who was anyone partied their afternoon away under the sahel sun...

  • Although Sky Bar was to officially open it's doors on Friday night, a technical glitch due to a cable shortage meant that the opening party was yet delayed again! But that didn't stop Wahdan from getting a couple of his gogo dancers together and throwing an impromptu party at the old Sky Bar location (for those of you who don't know Sky Bar is no longer on the beach in Hacienda Bay)...

  • Tamarai NC151 hosted DJs Samba and Fahmy....which was surprisingly jam packed considering all the other events that were going on at the same time! The music was up to par and so was the crowd.

  • As for Sahel's oldest and favorite hot spot Andrea, was jam packed for a Friday night with all of Cairo's who's who that tend not to venture far away from their feeding grounds...not to forget the cat fight that went down between two of Cairo's young socialites and their man!

This Weekend

July 7, 2010

As we all know this weekend isn't starting off with too big of bang, due to tomorrow's dry night, but we're sure that isn't going to stop anyone!

We hear a bunch of house parties will be happening on Thursday, in light of there being no where to go out too (wait for S&H's weekend roundup for all the details)

As for Friday, everyone in Sahel has two choices of events to chose from!

Mercedes Star Lounge is back, with Serge Devant one of the worlds biggest DJ's...the event is invites only.

Aly el Awadi will be DJ'ing beside Serge, while the alcohol will be flowing due to the premium open bar...

Did you guys book?

If your more into the hip hop and R&B scene, without the sketchy crowd head out to Indigo Marassi, to hear DJ AK spin some of the hottest tunes that will make your "booty's shake"?!?

But if you're looking for a normal night out there are always our favorites Andrea and Tamarai NC 151 which you could head out to...or you could stay home and unwind in the fresh air!

Weekend Roundup

June 27, 2010

Summer is back and you all know what that means...weekly roundups to keep you all in the loop! Sun, beach, and long nights, only means things will get juicier as time goes by...

Tamarai Opening - As we all know this weekend was the opening of Tamarai NC 151 at Bianchi beach...we're kind of at a loss for words with regards to its weekend outcome as it didn't match up to our expectations! Although the beachy setup may have impressed the majority of the people, didn't seem there was much thought put into it or maybe they were tight on time...Even though the majority of the crowd wasn't recognizable, probably explains the fight that broke out on Friday night, we did love the music on both the opening night and Friday...we just wonder since when has it been normal to pay over 500 l.e. for mixers alone (complaint from an S&H reader)

***Before everyone bashes S&H for their tough review, take it as constructive criticism, the              place has plenty of potential, it just needs to be put to good use!

Andrea - Going into its 2nd weekend, after its soft opening last weekend, one of the North Coast's favorite spots is back on the map! The old school hangout frequented by much of the older crowd, has completely transformed it's look, to a more loungey atmosphere. We loved the new setup and design, and although it wasn't packed over the weekend, all of the older who's who of Cairo were spotted enjoying the long summery nights here!

Mercedes Star Lounge - Soon to be the next sahel party place, the Mercedes Star lounge this weekend in front of Hacienda Bay, was the place to watch and enjoy the world cup matches.

The huge mega screen along with the drinks and shisha (did we mention they were complimentary) was the best solution to winding down after the beach, and pre-gamming before a long night out...

What is everyone's thoughts on sahel this year? Or is it too early to judge?

Weekend Roundup

May 30, 2010

From concerts to weddings, this was an event-packed weekend!

As we mentioned before, the band Degla launched their album at Sakkia in Zamalek on Friday night with a little fire on stage...but it was taken care of and the show went on! (is this the trend? Mariah...now Degla!)

During the day on Friday, Ganzoury hosted his 5th Avenue party which was also a hit! (no fire though). The crowd was dressed to the nines, the music was on point and Sophie Ellis Bextor's performance was amazing! (pictured below)

Also that night was an exclusive Palm Hills event that was thrown specifically for 2000 of their members for their new extension. Le Petit Chat performed wow'ing all the guests!

Last but not least, Cairo's very own Carrie Bradshaw, Amy Mowafi got married this Saturday to Yusuf Al-Ansari at a beautiful wedding in Sakkara. It was definitely a celebration to write about! Congratulations to the lovely couple!
