While sitting with the team and discussing our weekend, one of our colleagues shared that he may or may not have drunk texted his ex girlfriend with certain inappropriate sentiments he wishes he never sent. We laughed...for awhile. And then we laughed some more.
And then we realized...Ah yes, the drunk text! We've all either done it or received it, or in most cases, both.
Our generation is a text-loving bbm-crazy one whose fingers are glued to our smart phones. We tweet, we FB status, and we sms & bbm like it's our job. So it's only natural that once our inhibitions are relaxed, or better yet, nonexistent due to a drink or two (or three or four?)...those very messages lead us down old paths and sometimes way awkward new ones.
On the sender's end, you think,
hey, I've always wanted to tell [insert crush/ex/persons name here] something...I'm going to do it, we gain this sense of confidence that's like,
you know what, try to stop me! ...and then we send. Most of the time the sentences are barely legible but we don't care, we said what we had to say and don't regret it ...that is until tomorrow morning.
On the receivers end, you wake up at 4 am to a msg that looks something like this, "hry, i jst wnt u to kkniw that i msis u n i tihnk im in lvoe withyou" and that's a cute version. But most of them time we look at our phone half asleep with one eye opened and think....
awkwaaaaard.
So do you act like nothing happened in the morning or reply or what?! Our suggestions...never bring it up unless they do because more often than that they either 1. Don't remember sending it. 2. Remember and are hoping that you'll forget and are 10x more embarrassed.
Drunk sexting is probably the funniest, but we won't get into that one ;)
Drunk tweeting is our favorite actually. Tweeters (people who tweet) enjoy sharing their thoughts, likes, and dislikes via this new platform. While it's usually interesting on it's own...when alcohol is involved, it makes it that much more interesting! The lack of inhibitions allows for a tweet that windows into the person's very soul, okay yeah that was too deep, but really think about it - We usually text, bbm, and tweet with caution, but when that caution is thrown out the window, the possibilities are endless and EXTREMELY entertaining!
So everyone, as you sober up this week at work and approach the next weekend ready to party your pants off, just remember one thing for the sake of your dignity - don't drink and text! ...or tweet!
Tell us your drunk texting stories!
