Calling all book lovers, book worms and bargain seekers, who know summer is a great time for reading. In the Spirit of Re-using, Donya Desee is holding its first ever Used Books’ Sale on Monday the 7th of Juneat Makan (The Egyptian Center for Culture and Art). The event is meant to be fun filled and allow us to exchange books that we’ve enjoyed but stopped using and buy new titles that we would like to read. If you have some books to sell, e-mail us (info@ecooptionsegypt.com) the list of titles and their prices (10, 20, 30, 40 etc) and we’ll arrange to pick them up before the event or you can drop them at Makan. On the day of the event, we’ll handle the sale of the items for a 10% fee and provide you with your profits at the end of the day. Shopping hours will be between 7 and 10 pm and you’ll enjoy refreshments while you browse, socialize and discuss your favorite titles with like minded people. During the book sale, we’ll have various appearances by very exciting environmental initiatives in Egypt so you’ll have the chance to hear about them and see the change agents themselves. The event is open to everyone, so contact us to sell your items or bring your friends and come shop for new used summer reads. Don’t forget to come in eco-friendly transportation:

As we've seen from your tweets, statuses, bbms, and texts, most of you have heard about the unfortunate and tragic events that happened yesterday on the Gaza Flotilla. Our hearts and prayers go out to Gaza and the innocent victims and bystanders, as well as their families.

Just the other day one of Cairo's youngest landed her first Middle East Music Award! Ms. Lara Scandar won the "encouragement award for rising artists"Why do we get the feeling this is the first of many more to come? Congratulations to the young rising star....
From concerts to weddings, this was an event-packed weekend! As we mentioned before, the band Degla launched their album at Sakkia in Zamalek on Friday night with a little fire on stage...but it was taken care of and the show went on! (is this the trend? Mariah...now Degla!) During the day on Friday, Ganzoury hosted his 5th Avenue party which was also a hit! (no fire though). The crowd was dressed to the nines, the music was on point and Sophie Ellis Bextor's performance was amazing! (pictured below) Also that night was an exclusive Palm Hills event that was thrown specifically for 2000 of their members for their new extension. Le Petit Chat performed wow'ing all the guests! Last but not least, Cairo's very own Carrie Bradshaw, Amy Mowafi got married this Saturday to Yusuf Al-Ansari at a beautiful wedding in Sakkara. It was definitely a celebration to write about! Congratulations to the lovely couple!
Recently, the 2010 Middle East Events Award ceremony was hosted in Dubai, UAE and while that is newsworthy by itself, what we found the most interesting is the noteworthy nominations and wins by our own Egyptians! Both Yassin Matbouly, the CEO of Dubai-based VIBE Middle East and Ahmed El Beltagy of Expose were both nominated! Beltagy was nominated for four categories for the Beyonce concert Expose hosted in Port Ghalib. Matbouly was also nominated and won for VIBE's organization of the Coca-Cola Company Annual Conference. We are so proud that Egyptians are being recognized for their event management on an international level! Congrats guys!
